A bit of rain didn’t stop Vivian Biesiedzinski from picking over all the treasure and goods at the annual Shipwreck Festival Saturday. The Granite Falls resident, who scored the top half of a male mannequin — sexy and just $75, she said — was one of the thousands of people who worked their way up and down Commercial Avenue checking out antiques, vintage items, collectibles and just plain old stuff pulled from attics and sheds.

They moved through the streets shoulder to shoulder, snaking through the bazaar as a herd of mismatched shoppers. Some sought the bottom-dollar deals of the yard-salers while others haggled over handmade fine art. Single shoppers and entire families all made their way through the maze of sellers carrying fishing poles, golf clubs, skis and the occasional chair.

What started as a community garage sale has become a HUGE community event that has something for everyone! Since 1981. This popular event fills several blocks of downtown with plunder offered by businesses, antique dealers, families and organizations. Shipwreck day (in recent years, it's become a festival)- is a community flea market and garage sale featuring antiques, crafts, food and more.
